Black and White Prints

Black and White prints provide a most elegant representation of nature.  The absence of color allows the eye to rest, simplifying the form to basic shapes and shading. In a way black and white prints are the Zen of photography.  In my black and white prints I attempt to remove as much distraction as possible, so what is left is the essence of the object I am photographing. This is not an easy process as the temptation is to show more. Deciding what to remove and what to leave behind is one the critical processes in fine art photography.

The black and white print galleries here include: Black and White Flowers Prints, Black and White Tree Prints and Black and White Water Prints.  My floral work includes a collection of one the most elegant flowers, the Cal Lilly, Cactus Flowers and a number of wild flowers. A number of these flower images are taken in water. In many instances I pay particular attention to the light and shadow illuminating a particular part of the flower introducing more drama into the photograph.

Black and White Prints

Black and white prints is one of the most established photographic representations made popular by Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and a number of other great photographers. With the introduction of color digital photography it would seem that the black and white photography would lose its popularity.  However that is not the case, many collectors and photography appreciators continue to support this form of photography.

In a way black and white prints have created a niche all on its own and in fact many young people are developing a taste for its elegant presentation.  In my creative process I love alternating between color and black and white photography. It gives freedom and diversity of expression. As an artist I often feed on diversity for inspiration.
